Prior to actually managing the agency, Maria had served as president of the board of directors, a post she assumed in 2007. During that period, she had reenergized and redirected the efforts of the board to taking a more active role in agency oversight.
Maria comes to us from Bogotá Colombia, where she graduated from Universidad de los Andes with a degree in political science. Having worked for a multinational education publishing firm after graduation, she immigrated to the United States in 2001. After a term as office manager of a law firm, she joined her husband’s company New England Abstract, LLC, a real estate title searching company to serve as an office manager. In 2006 she created Freelance Translations, LLC, providing professional language services to law firms, corporations and the general public. Among her many skills is complete fluency in the Spanish, English and French languages. Maria is also completing certification in Court Interpreting at New York University. She lives here in Wallingford with her husband John.
We know that you share our excitement at having Maria head up SCOW at this important time for our Latino community. The energy, insight and positive leadership she brings to us is a most encouraging development, and we very much wanted to share this good news with you.
