Seasonal Programs Offered by SCOW

Energy Assistance Program

A representative from New Opportunities of Greater Meriden assists clients who meet the program’s income requirements, once a week, in filling out the applications for home heating, sewage, and water assistance.


Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

In conjunction with HRA of New Britain, Inc., and under the supervision of the IRS, this program provides free preparation and filing of annual tax returns by IRS-certified volunteers. All volunteers are certified in Standards of Conduct (Ethics) and Current Tax Law, along with other IRS -required training. This program is a free-of-charge service to families and individuals who meet the total household income requirements.

Health and Wellness Workshops

In collaboration with the Wallingford Department of Youth and Social Services, the Wallingford Health Department, the Coalition for a Better Wallingford, The Wallingford Fire Department, The Wallingford Police Department, Hartford Healthcare and the Meriden Health and Human Services Department, we offer regular education and information workshops on important topics affecting our community. Some of the topics include CPR, First Aid, AED and Narcan training, and workshops on mental health education, addiction prevention, fire prevention, and bicycle safety.
