Digital Literacy Classes
SCOW offers basic and intermediate level technology classes to adults. These classes are designed to help adults learn or strengthen the technology skills that will help them navigate through and succeed in our technologically advanced society. As they progress, students will become more confident and self-sufficient and will be able to apply the skills they have learned in their daily technological activities at home or work.
Spanish Classes
We offer weekly conversational beginner and intermediate level Spanish classes for non-Spanish speakers.
ESL Classes
We offer weekly English as a Second Language (ESL) classes provided by Literacy Volunteers of Greater New Haven and Wallingford Adult Education. As students progress, they gain confidence in the English language, both at work and in their daily activities and interactions. It is our belief that no other skill can provide more benefit to the Hispanic/Latino/a/e residents.
PowerUp Program
In partnership with the United Way of Meriden and Wallingford, this workforce initiative is designed for motivated individuals who are seeking employment or looking to upskill in their current career path. Participants have the opportunity to receive training, support, and wraparound services that will help them overcome the barriers they may be facing that keep them from excelling in the workforce.
Drumming Classes
The SCOW School of Music offers a monthly Saturday morning drumming class, a relaxed exploration of the rhythms of West Africa, the African Diaspora, and beyond. Participants learn the fundamental language of the drum, rhythmic concepts, and how to create meaningful dialogue, along with essential playing and listening techniques. The class is open to the community. All ages welcome.
No experience required. Some drums are provided, or participants can bring their own djembe, conga, or ashiko style drum. $10 donation. First Saturday of the month, 11:00-12:30 | Instructor: Mark Zarrillo
